The purpose of the Crossroads Community Block Watch Program is to deter the fear and incidence of crime in our community. The use of citizen volunteers who are committed, dedicated, and willing to take responsibility for implementing and maintaining the Block Watch Program is a mojor factor. District Police personnel also assist us by "working together" to reduce crime in our community.

DUTIES OF CAPTAINS & DISTRICT COORDINATORS

• Chairman: Is responsible for overseeing the effectiveness of the Crossroads Block Watch. Along with the Board of Director which is comprised of the Treasurer, District Co-ordinators, Police Liaisons, the chairman provides leadership, guidance, and motivation to all the residents of the community in an effort to ensure the viability of the program.


• Treasurer: Maintains an accurate accounting of the society’s accounting practices


• District Co-ordinator – Delivers quarterly newsletters to Captains for distribution to member in the block. This volunteer coordinator also trains new captains and co-captians and, if necessary, recruits new captains in any vacant blocks. Assist residents with any issues pertaining to the website including the Calgary Police site. If there is no block captain in a area deliver the blockwatch newsletter.


• Block Captains – Are responsible for approximately 30-40 homes within a geographical location and are the key contact persons for member in the block. Block Captains deliver quarterly newsletter.
  
  Block Captains recruit replacements and assistants to replace them for holidays, illness, or if the block is a large one. These individuals also welcome new members on the block to Block Watch program. Co-Captains are strongly recommended to assist Captains in distribution of newsletters, and to replace Captains for holidays, illness, etc.
  
  The time commitment for Block and Co-Captians is approximetly 10 hours per year.
  
  Volunteer Captains are mandatory if the block is to be part of the Block Watch Program.
  Assist residents with any issues pertaining to the website including the Calgary Police site.
