FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

  • Q. I am new to the community. Who do I contact to get involved in the program?

    A. Contact anyone on the Board of Directors who will ensure you are directed to your respective Block Captain.

  • Q. Do residents patrol the streets or make arrests?

    A. This is not a vigilante program. Block Watchers ware not asked to patrol their neighbourhoods, nor do they attempt to chase and catch criminals. An observant eye for any unusual activity and common sense precautions are two important functions of an effective Block Watch.

  • Q. If a person observes suspicious activity, do they call the police or their Block Captain?

    A. Call the police. Give a location (exact location can be obtained from the Block Map), direction of travel, an accurate description of the suspect and vehicle. Try and obtain the license plate number. This is part of the training you would receive as a member of Block Watch.

Also provide your Block Captain with the above information after calling the police. This is valuable information for the telephone fan-out system.

  • Q. When do I call 911?

    A. You call 911 when there is a crime in progress, or you are witnessing an emergency situation. Call (403) 266-1234 for all other incidents.

*All of the above must be under $5,000 Canadian.
License plate theft/recovery must be phoned in.

All cases filed using the CPS Citizen Online Report System will be reviewed. Upon review, if further investigation of your case is needed, you may be contacted. Filing a false plice report is a crime.

For all other incidents, call 403.266.1234 or 911 in the event of an emergency or crime in progress.
